FRIEND OF THE FAMILY

Mentor Program

Experienced Voices You Can Trust

Get Advice from Experienced Adoptive Families

The Friend of the Family Mentor Program provides mentors for prospective adoptive families. Families are matched with experienced adoptive parents who can provide the understanding and support of someone who has already navigated the adoption process. We consistently hear from families that the most helpful support in their adoption journey is from experienced families. Mentor-mentee relationships can vary in length of time (a few weeks to a few months) and by type of connection (coffee date or phone or zoom call, etc).

For Mentees

We welcome families who are signed up for MAPP, completing a home study, waiting for a match, or newly matched/placed to the Friend of the Family Mentor Program. We pair mentees with a mentor family with similarities in regards to family constellation, parenting experience, age range of child, etc.

To apply to be a mentee, please complete and submit an Application to be a Mentee →.

For Mentors

We seek experienced adoptive parents who can provide encouragement, share their own experiences, and acquaint families with helpful resources and services. We are always looking for families who:

  • • Have finalized an adoption from foster care
  • • Have built a positive working relationship with DCF or contracted private agency
  • • Can commit to maintaining weekly to monthly contact with your mentee via phone, email or in person

To apply to be a mentor, please complete and submit an Application to be a Mentor → so we can get to know you and match you well.
