Walk for Adoption
How You Can Help

FRIEND OF THE FAMILY PROGRAM

The Friend of the Family Program, started in the spring of 2009, is a mentor program for adoptive families.  From beginning to end, the adoption process can be overwhelming and difficult.  Through this program, prospective adoptive families will be matched with an experienced adoptive parent who can provide the understanding of someone who has gone through the same process.

MARE is looking for experienced adoptive parents who will provide encouragement, share their own experiences, and acquaint families with helpful resources and services.  Mentors will be matched with families who are

  • Beginning the process of adoption
  • In the waiting period
  • Matched
  • Newly placed

To become a Friend of the Family, you must

  • Have finalized an adoption from foster care
  • Have a positive relationship with DCF or contracted private agency
  • Be able to maintain weekly to monthly phone contact with your mentee

For more information about the Friend of the Family Program or to become either a mentor or mentee, contact Ruth Bodian at ruthb@mareinc.org.
